As a customer gets change from the machine, Rodregas Cockfield, 54, of Peoria watches over the Waterworks car wash on North Western Avenue, one of three jobs where he works for at or just above minimum wage. The statewide minimum wage increase from $6.50 to $7.50 an hour, with annual increases of 25 cents through 2010, will be particularly helpful to Cockfield, who is working toward opening up his own auto detailing shop in Peoria.
