Kyra Coyle-Desilets, 3, daughter of Lance Cpl. Benjamin Desilets, sizes up four young Marines standing guard outside the auditorium at Elmwood High School prior to a public viewing of her father's body Thursday afternoon. Lance Cpl. Desilets, who was posthumously promoted to corporal and given the Purple Heart and other honors at a ceremony preceding the viewing, was killed in the Anbar Province in Iraq last Tuesday. When I saw this picture in our local paper, it touched my heart. I had to get on your website to see what the story was. The determination of that little girl vs the anquish on the soldiers faces says it all. I will keep this photo forever.
My name is LCpl Kim and I was given the honor of escorting Cpl Desilets's remains to his family two days ago. (November 2nd) I met his mother Brenda and daughter Kyra as well as his siblings and extended family. The full impact of the task that was given to me was realized only when I got back to my base in Quantico, Va... My heart goes out to beautiful Kyra who will grow up with a sorrow that will never go away... I lost friends before but never had the chance to honor them by attending the funerals but I am glad I had the chance to honor this marine...
