Remembering a Hero
Jim Piper, 51, of Peoria stands over the grave of his father, Darrell Piper, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War who died in 2001 at the age of 72, during the Memorial Day weekend ceremony at Springdale Cemetary. "I was never in the service, but he really instilled God and country in all of his kids," says Piper, who was one of six children. "I miss him."
