With a hand from his mother, Heather Biggs, Devin White, 11, dries off his grandmother's poodle, Maurice, after the two went swimming in the Gulf of Mexico at Dog Beach in Ft. DeSoto Park on New Year's Day as a dreary drizzle begins to fall. White was visiting his mother and grandmother in St. Petersburg and, despite the gloomy weather, was set on getting some swimming in before heading home to his father in San Francisco on Monday. Shortly after, the family headed home to warm up Maurice, who was shivering from the cold water. (Times photo by David Zentz)
